If you’re a farmer, landowner, or rural property owner in upstate New York, you know what happens to fence lines when they’re left alone for a few years. Trees root in along the post line. Brush fills in from both sides. Vines climb the wire. What used to be a clear boundary becomes a wall of vegetation that’s difficult to walk, almost impossible to repair, and in some cases actively pulling down the fence itself.

Upstate NY Brush Control specializes in fence line and fence row clearing for agricultural and rural properties throughout the Saratoga Springs area, Galway, Albany, and surrounding communities. We clear out what’s taken over and give you back your fence line.

What Fence Row Clearing Involves

Fence row clearing is the process of removing brush, small trees, vines, and overgrowth that has built up along an existing fence line. The goal is to clear the corridor along the fence so you can see it, access it, and maintain or repair it as needed.

We use a skid steer with a forestry mulching attachment to work along the fence row, grinding the vegetation as we go. This avoids the need to pull out piles of cut material and leaves the area much cleaner than hand-cutting or chainsaw work alone. Depending on the property, we can work from one side of the fence or coordinate access from both sides to get a thorough clear.

Who Needs This Service

Fence row clearing is especially common for:

  • Farms with pasture fencing that has been overtaken by brush and tree growth
  • Rural property owners with boundary fences they can no longer access or inspect
  • Landowners who recently purchased property with neglected fence lines
  • Anyone looking to restore a fence line before repair or replacement work

We’re surrounded by farms in the Galway and Saratoga Springs area, and fence line clearing is something we understand firsthand. It’s the kind of job that makes a real, immediate difference on a working property.

How the Work Gets Done

We start with a free estimate and a walk of the fence line. This gives us a clear picture of the length, the type of vegetation involved, and any access considerations. From there, we schedule the job and get to work.

On the day of the job, we work the mulching head along the fence corridor, clearing brush and trees as we go. We’re careful around the fence structure itself and work to clear the overgrowth without causing additional damage to posts and wire. Some fence lines are in rough shape before we even get there — we’ll let you know what we see.

Frequently Asked Questions About Fence Line Clearing

How close can you get to the actual fence without damaging it?

We work carefully along fence lines and take care not to put the equipment into the fence structure itself. That said, very tight areas or fences already in poor shape can present challenges. We’ll assess this during the estimate and talk through any areas that need extra attention. Our goal is to clear the overgrowth, not create more fence problems.

What if trees have grown up right through the fence posts?

This is common, especially on older fence lines. Trees growing into or around posts can complicate the clearing but aren’t necessarily a dealbreaker. We’ll look at it during the estimate and be upfront about what we can address with the mulching equipment and what might need additional work.

Do you clear both sides of the fence?

We can work on one or both sides depending on the property layout and your goals. If access is available on both sides, clearing both gives you a cleaner result. We’ll figure out the best approach when we walk the fence line with you.

How long does fence row clearing take?

That depends on the length of the fence and how overgrown the corridor is. A heavily wooded fence row takes more time than one with lighter brush. We’ll give you a time estimate based on what we see during the walkthrough.

Will clearing the fence line damage the posts or wire?

We work to avoid contact with the fence structure and take care with the equipment near posts and wire. Some fence lines come to us already in rough shape because of what the vegetation has done to them over the years. We’ll let you know what we see while we’re out there so you have an accurate picture before we start.
